Special Containment Procedures: The Buzzing

SCP-XXX11: “The Buzzing”
Item #: SCP- XXX11
Object Class: Euclid
Threat Class: Blue

Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-XXX11 is currently unfeasible. Access or Ways to its reality are unavailable to the Foundation currently, and no known means of even detecting its presence when it enters baseline reality is available to the Foundation at this time. As SCP-XXX11’s interaction with baseline seems to be strictly related to the creation and maintenance of SCP-XXX11-A instances, which currently happens at an acceptable rate, and no known means of stopping it is available at present, containment of SCP-XXX11 should focus on SCP-XXX11-A.
Instances of SCP-XXX11-A are best contained through diplomacy. Currently, most instances seem to regard agents of both the Foundation and the GOC as in much the same way as the fringe anomalous criminal underground, as poorly understood law enforcement of strict anti-anomaly laws, and do their best to avoid violating the Veil even when they are otherwise unfamiliar with the concept. When dealing with instances, personnel are to follow standard Founders Protocol.[1]
Despite their caution regarding the Foundation, the little diplomatic contact made with SCP-XXX11-A instances has been successful, due to the fact that their default goals seem to largely align with the Foundation’s. They are most often directed by SCP-XXX11 or other employers to combat a variety of mostly Keter-level, high threat SCPs, such as SCP-XXX13, SCP-XXX39, SCP-3288, GoIs composed of predatory magicians, and Sarkic cults. As containment procedures for many of these involves extermination excepting for a limited number of contained instances, it is currently the opinion of the O-5 Council that leaving SCP-XXX11-A’s instances to their own devices, as long as they agree to the conditions of the Veil Protocol, which generally leads them to search and destroy instances of these and other anomalous threats.
If possible, one or more instances of SCP-XXX11-A should be recruited by the Foundation and given opportunity and means to pursue their goals to create the opportunity to study SCP-XXX11 and SCP-XXX11-A. They will also make excellent assets for MTF-Alpha-9 (“Last Hope”). Ultimately, recruitment is considered the most feasible containment procedure currently available to the Foundation, despite the potential problems with divided loyalty between The Foundation and SCP-XXX11.
Description: SCP-XXX11 is a gestalt or possibly hive-mind entity that refers to itself primarily as The Buzzing. When encountered in baseline reality, instances of SCP-XXX11 are consistently described as glowing orange honey-bee-like insects. SCP-XXX11 resides in an unknown location or dimension and possesses the ability to enter baseline reality seemingly at will. SCP-XXX11-A instances refer to this location as variously the Fields of the Dead (or sometimes of Asphodel, one possible afterlife in classical Greek cosmology), the Astral Plane, Agartha, or Yggdrasil.
SCP-XXX11 instances seem to enter baseline reality solely for the purpose of locating individual humans and convincing them to become instances of SCP-XXX11-A. Commonly referred to as “Bees” by themselves and others in the occult underground, SCP-XXX11-A instances are granted limited, class-0 reality-bending and thaumatological abilities by SCP-XXX11. These commonly include:
  • Impressive regenerative abilities up to and including the ability to seemingly return from death, reconstituting a new body at thaumatological power-sites formed by ley-line intersections, hereafter known as EVE-loci. These powers function at a slow but steady rate, allowing instances to recover from significant wounds over a matter of hours. Instances of SCP-XXX11-A seem to be capable of willing themselves deceased so that they can reconstitute a body outside of containment.
  • Resistance to damage in the first place, allowing them to shrug off most of what should be lethal blows, including gunfire, receiving more minor (regeneratable) wounds instead.
  • Limited thaumatological and reality-bending abilities, including but not limited to the use of telekinesis to fling objects at foes, move with superhuman speed in several different ways, levitate, and more, as well as the ability to bond with various talismans, which seem to provide a degree of their supernatural resilience, and with sites of power at the intersections of ley-lines, which seem to grant them improvements in their paranatural powers.
In addition to these traits, SCP-XXX11-A instances are frequently aligned with SCP-XXX23 and armed with instances of SCP-XXX23-A, making them instances of SCP-XXX23-B as well, and should be treated as appropriately dangerous. Research is ongoing as to whether more SCP-XXX11-A instances take instructions from SCP-XXX23 than SCP-XXX11 and what relevance that might have to the Foundation. SCP-XXX11-A instances tend to operate in loose cells, with each instance largely determining its own actions, and cooperation between instances is semi-formal and not required by SCP-XXX11.

[1] When members of the occult criminal underground (which most SCP-XXX11-A instances seem to include themselves among) have a name for the Foundation, rather than referring to one of our front organizations or to the Men in Black, we are more often referred to as the Founders than the Jailers thanks to The Founders Protocol, though this still indicates how out of touch most city’s undergrounds are with the greater anomalous community.

The Founders Protocol is to encourage the use of this name in criminal undergrounds whenever possible, as implying that the Foundation is an ancient organization, possible responsible for one or more civilizations (to judge by the name), is helpful in both obfuscating the truth and asserting authority in situations where an agent’s authority might be questioned.

The Buzzing is inspired by and closely based on the Gaia bees in the MMORPG The Secret World (and Secret World Legends) which give you powers. This document presents them through the eyes and documentation of the SCP Foundation, which is also a major inspiration and source of material for this campaign.
